Thank you Ana!
DeleteAwesome...I am going to go make and freeze beans this weekend. It never dawned on me to make them myself and at 85 cents a can for red kidney beans (which my daughter LOVES and will eat rinsed from the can if they are not in tonights dinner) I can do so much better making them myself. That was a total DERP moment. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed with these bean eating kids!!
DeleteSoak the beans for about 24 hours before putting them in the crockpot.
That's awesome. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks T!
DeleteTwo great posts! I am sure that it will help lots of people figure out their way towards meal planning!!! I wanted to ask about freezing in the canning jars. I have been making broth, enchilada sauce, rice, and other things in big batches and freezing but I freeze everything in plastic bags (UGH!) but I am trying to figure out a better way. I got a case of canning jars for Christmas...yup, it is what I asked for :) Do you just leave a little head room and put it in the freezer? Do you cool them first in the fridge/counter? I can't wait to have a freezer with less plastic waste :)
ReplyDeleteYou're my kind of gift requester Alison! A friend of mine gives me a case of canning jars every year for my birthday and I love it.
DeleteYes, I leave about 1 inch of headspace, and have never had a jar break on my yet.
I just stumbled upon your blog and I'm so happy I did. I've been reading through the archives and finding so much useful information. You've inspired some changes in my home. Keep doing what your doing.
ReplyDeleteIm a new loyal reader. Congrats on the honor!
Thanks Theresa!
DeleteWe did baby-led feeding with my toddler, who LOVES beans. I made a giant batch and froze it in a muffin tin, and then popped out the frozen pucks of beans so I could pull them out one at a time and have just enough for her lunch. Woo!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed your kiddo ate beans! Jack wouldn't and will not touch them. My nephew though gobbles them right up. Love the muffin tin idea!
DeleteYou rock! Awesome news Sarah.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn!
